Intel’s Core 2 Quadro Kentsfield: Four Cores on a Rampage

Filed under: From Digg — jimX @ 3:54 pm Edit This

“As we’ve seen, Core 2 Quadro represents a significant step ahead, which AMD cannot counter until its 65 nm quad core processors will be available in H2/2007. AMD needs 4×4 now.”

Generally, same gaming performance, amazing ~80% gains in threaded software like video encoding or HD rendering.

Personally, I’ll wait for an AMD solution with 4 Cores on 1 Chip, a huge ass cache, smaller processes, and an uncapped multiplier.

Maybe the FX-64?

GW Bush’s iPod contains “illegal” (according to RIAA) music

Filed under: From Digg — jimX @ 8:18 pm Edit This

Here we see that President Bush’s iPod contains songs by the Beatles; since no Beatles songs have been licensed for the iTunes Music Store yet, these must have come from ripped CDs. Remember last February, when the RIAA told a federal agency that ripping CDs is illegal? I wonder if they’ll bring charges.

I hope they do… then finally people will realise how absolutely retarded these suits are.

Geek ?= Terrorest; Geek != Terrorest; Print “Those Bastards”

Filed under: Rants, From Digg — jimX @ 8:14 pm Edit This

From Digg:

Arrested for being a geek.

“The police decided that wearing a rain jacket, carrying a rucksack with a laptop inside, looking down at the steps while going into a tube station and checking your phone for messages just ticked too many boxes on their checklist and makes you a terrorist suspect.”

A) He should be happy they didn’t go for a headshot
B) That guy needs his stuff back.
C) They should expunge the record of this incident
D) They should Apologise
E) He should sue
F) Scotland Yard needs a kick in the balls, too.

We Need A Broadband Bill Of Rights

Filed under: From Digg — jimX @ 3:31 pm Edit This

From Digg:

The news that a service provider was forcing its broadband customers to pay a premium to use VoIP from Vonage shows that it’s time for a “broadband bill of rights.”

Here’s what I want in The Internet Bill of Rights:

  1. 100% Guarunteed Bandwidth alotment
  2. Right to connect anything to the network
  3. Right to connect any number of systems to a network
  4. Right to run any type of service (eg. Webserver) without having to pay for a “Buisness” Connection
  5. Right to use all ports
  6. Right to privacy. (eg. Telco cant release any information to anyone without written consent)
  7. Right to a reliable connection (99% uptime, no flakey hardware [like my DSL modem])
  8. Right to Simplified pricing (?) (eg. All Taxes, fees must be included in advertised price)
  9. Right to intelligent and understandable tech suport. (Not everyone is a granny with her first E-Mail Account, and sometimes the customer knows what they’re talking about)
  10. Right to Competition (eg. Allow Verizon to use Alltel’s DSL lines and allow Adelphia to use Comcast’s Coaxial cable)
  11. Right to access any service on any server, reguardless of location or content (eg. No Great Firewall of China)

Thats all I want in a Telco. Maybe I’m dreaming… maybe I’m not.

FCC Requires Firewire port on HD Cable Boxes

Filed under: From Digg — jimX @ 9:34 pm Edit This

From Digg:

Reading on the MythTV board

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/150079?page=unread#unread

that there is a requirement from the FCC for Cable operators as of April 1, 2004 to have WORKING Firewire ports (76.701 section 4(ii))

And HMI or DVI ports by July 1, 2005.

This is a major step forward for the free (as in speech) movement. I was planning a mythbox and this is just in time. The box I was thinking of using (the one I’m typing this on now) Has 2 Firewire ports; one on the back that has the “traditional” connector, and another on the front that has the propriotary Sony i-link interface. (Why do companies have an urge to name things with an “i” in the front?) So now I probably won’t have to buy a Tuner Card!! w00t!! and now I don’t even have to screw around with a cable card or anything!! hehehe I’m starting to not hate the FCC as much. For once they’re actually working for the customer anstead of for the copyright holder. We should implement a Viewerright legislation!!!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!
