From Digg:

Reading on the MythTV board

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/150079?page=unread#unread

that there is a requirement from the FCC for Cable operators as of April 1, 2004 to have WORKING Firewire ports (76.701 section 4(ii))

And HMI or DVI ports by July 1, 2005.

This is a major step forward for the free (as in speech) movement. I was planning a mythbox and this is just in time. The box I was thinking of using (the one I’m typing this on now) Has 2 Firewire ports; one on the back that has the “traditional” connector, and another on the front that has the propriotary Sony i-link interface. (Why do companies have an urge to name things with an “i” in the front?) So now I probably won’t have to buy a Tuner Card!! w00t!! and now I don’t even have to screw around with a cable card or anything!! hehehe I’m starting to not hate the FCC as much. For once they’re actually working for the customer anstead of for the copyright holder. We should implement a Viewerright legislation!!!

VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!
